Ektron All-Stars :: Best Publishing Site
TENNIS Magazine: www.tennis.com
| Why it won: At a time when many traditional publishers are struggling to create a compelling web offering, TENNIS Magazine 's Tennis.com is exemplary. It has established a powerful online presence that truly complements its print magazine, with fresh articles, web photo galleries and live news feeds that keeps it ahead of other publishers – doubling page views and tripling the time visitors spend on the site. |
TENNIS.com, the official site of TENNIS Magazine, was the first in-depth tennis website to hit the World Wide Web and has now been delivering original exclusive coverage for more than 10 years. In 2006, it was in search of a content managment system to rebuild the website with a solid foundation it could trust and found Ektron. The challenge was to correctly organize 10 years of informational content and come up with an architectural structure that would satisfy both new tennis fans and repeat in-depth viewers.

TENNIS.com extended the Ektron solution with an NNTP pulling system that automatically checks for new articles from the Associated Press and pulls them into the CMS. Along with this, a photo gallery CMS function has been written allowing them to create photo galleries based on CMS folders. One folder in particular uses the NNTP pulling service to check for new pictures from the Associated Press and automatically adds them into the CMS.
Within the first month of the re-launch of TENNIS.com using Ektron's CMS 400.NET, the magazine has more than doubled the average page views and users are staying on the website three times longer. Because of this, TENNIS.com has increased advertising revenue significantly.
"Implementation with Ektron CMS400.NET has been a 100 percent positive experience. Everything we wanted to accomplish when we began the new re-design and architecture of TENNIS.com has been carried out successfully. We have yet to find something that the Ektron system is incapable of doing. In fact, we will be using this same system once again on other Miller Publications." —Tino Persico, TENNIS Magazine
