The world is constantly changing. As a result, IT professionals are being asked to make changes at the speed of light.
Without a Web Content Management System (WCM) the responsibilities around website maintenance will often fall to overqualified technical resources asked to trouble-shoot or investigate the problems. This means highly-qualified (and paid!) resources are being pulled off projects to make small copy, image, and layout changes. This is inefficient, ineffective and often demoralizing to mid-senior level tech resources.
The above scenario speaks loudly to the need for organizations to invest in content management systems when building out any website. WCMs are the ONLY real way for your business team to make any change they want, when they want, all the while keeping your tech resources where they should be, focusing on difficult technology-related issues!
Content management systems provide a series of features which allow content and marketing managers to work, and make changes a developer would, without the complexity or having to know “how to code”. These WCMs enable people to modify anything from copy & images, to design tasks as complex as website layouts. Because of these powerful feature sets developers don't have to worry about non-technical resources breaking a website. Your mid-senior level tech resources can therefore be left along to continue addressing emergencies, and other larger money-making projects that relate specifically to tech.
This all said, please don’t think that I am saying that a powerful WCM serves as a replacement for a good development team. I am not saying that at all.
A developer is still needed to correctly strategize, map, plan, tie-in, and connect all the parts of a successful WCM. Also, to fully unlock the true power of a WCM, you will want your developer to create custom controls that will further enable more control over the site content.
A web content management system will enable you to move at the speed of light in this modern age. You can make content (images, text, asset, link, etc.) changes cheaply and efficiently without constantly having to pull development resources. Using a WCM also will keep your developers happier as they can focus on extending system functionality to enable to your organization to work on larger company initiatives and keep your business competitive and moving forward.
